Niners Optimizing Wellbeing (NOW) Program

The Niners Optimizing Well-being (NOW) program provides a structured opportunity to develop holistic well-being and leadership abilities among high-achieving UNC Charlotte student leaders.  This program is coordinated by faculty and staff in Counseling and Psychological Services, the Center for Wellness Promotion, the Department of Kinesiology, the Student Health Center, and University Recreation.

NOW has three goals:

  1. Create a flourishing opportunity for high-achieving student leaders on campus to enhance their ability to function holistically at a high levels;
  2. Promote use of campus health and leadership programs and services among high-achieving students;
  3. Provide a “one stop shop” program to address student leaders’ holistic wellness and leadership needs and promote the use of existing campus wellness-related resources and services.

Selected applicants will join a cohort of 5-8 students for a fall or spring semester.  Participants will complete an array of health and leadership assessments at the start of the program, individual results from these assessments will inform the development of personal goals for each participant, and will serve as the basis for referrals to a variety of services offered by the University to achieve these goals.  Each student will be paired with a UNC Charlotte staff or faculty member who will serve as their wellness and performance coach, who through regular meetings will support them in achieving their goals.  Additionally, a series of four cohort group meetings will take place during the semester in order to build connections among cohort members and provide education on a variety of wellness, leadership, and personal development topics.
